NOW OPEN
9 AM - 5 PM, Tuesday - Sunday
At Mac Market: 1140 NE Alpine Ave, McMinnville, OR 97128
The gates are open to the newly transformed courtyard at Mac Market, and Berry Creek Garden is welcoming its first season. With spring underway, the nursery is now open and filled with carefully selected plants ready for gardens across the valley. Our shop and flower shed are still taking shape, but the heart of the garden is already alive.
Berry Creek Garden is a place to explore native and climate adapted plants, discover thoughtful tools and goods for the garden, and connect with others who care deeply about the land and the community we share. Visitors are invited to wander the courtyard, learn something new, and experience one of McMinnville’s newest gathering spaces for gardeners and nature lovers alike.
Our Plants
Native and climate-adapted plants form the foundation of a garden that works with the Willamette Valley rather than against it. These plants are naturally suited to the region’s wet winters, dry summers, and varied soils. Once established, many require far less irrigation, fertilizer, and maintenance than plants that evolved in very different climates.
Native plants are especially important for the health of local ecosystems. Many pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects depend on specific native species for nectar, pollen, seeds, and shelter. Incorporating native plants into a garden helps rebuild these relationships and creates habitat that supports wildlife throughout the seasons.
Climate-adapted plants expand the possibilities. These species often come from regions with Mediterranean-style climates similar to western Oregon. They offer resilience, color, texture, and long seasonal interest while still thriving with minimal summer water.
Together, native and climate-adapted plants create landscapes that are both beautiful and practical. They reflect the character of the Pacific Northwest while helping gardeners build spaces that are durable, ecologically supportive, and connected to the place they grow.

The Art of Bonsai Lecture
4/19/2026 | 2 - 4 PM
Berry Creek Garden welcomes local expert Dennis Quenneville for a special presentation on Japanese Bonsai Basics, exploring the art of creating living trees in miniature. This introductory program will cover the foundations of bonsai, including what defines a bonsai, the natural inspirations behind the practice, and the core design principles that shape these remarkable trees.
Participants will learn about classic bonsai styles, how natural forces such as wind, weather, and time influence the form of trees, and how artists recreate those patterns through pruning, shaping, and careful design. The presentation will also introduce commonly used species, soil and fertilization basics, and practical ways to begin a bonsai practice using seedlings, nursery plants, or trees from your own landscape.
Whether you are new to bonsai or interested in deepening your understanding of this centuries old horticultural tradition, this workshop offers a thoughtful starting point grounded in observation, patience, and a deeper appreciation of nature.
Space is limited.

Grand Opening Garden Party
4/25/2026 | 5 PM - 8 PM
Join us in celebrating the opening of Berry Creek Garden with a classic garden party in the courtyard at Mac Market. Enjoy the soft sounds of a string quartet, light hors d’oeuvres from our friends at Alea, drinks from Day by Day Bar, and slices from Honey Pie Pizza. For those feeling adventurous, Portland artist Lizzy Quinn will be offering botanical flash tattoos inspired by the natural world.
In the spirit of community, guests are invited to bring a small branch, twig, or stem from a favorite plant species, approximately 12 inches long. These pieces will be woven together into a large community wreath that reflects the diversity of plants and people that shape our landscape. The finished wreath will be displayed on the nursery wall as a living symbol of the garden we are growing together.
This is a free event, but we kindly ask that you RSVP so we can plan ahead. Please let us know you will be joining us by reserving your spot below.

Fairies in the Garden
6/21/2026 | 5 PM - 8 PM
Guests are invited to frolic in the garden like fairies, just as goddess intended, at this special Wine Country Pride gathering at Berry Creek Garden. This inclusive event offers a Pride celebration without alcohol, creating space for connection, joy, and community outside of the bar-centered traditions that often shape queer social life.
Musician Ames Bierly will perform with his string ensemble, while guests enjoy botanical mocktails and light bites from Alea Bakery in the courtyard garden.
*** Fairy costumes, wings, and creative makeup are strongly encouraged! ***
A portion of this event is made possible through a community grant from Wine Country Pride. Thank you to the board of WCP and to the queer community of Yamhill County for supporting spaces that bring people together in new and meaningful ways.
This free event is organized specifically for members of the LGBTQ+ community who do not drink alcohol, and space is limited. Please RSVP only if this description reflects you. We kindly ask that you reserve your spot below so we can plan accordingly.
About Berry Creek Garden
Berry Creek Garden is a neighborhood plant shop and garden space rooted in the landscapes of the Willamette Valley. The nursery focuses on plants that belong here: native species, climate-adapted varieties, and plants that support pollinators and healthy ecosystems. The goal is simple. Help people create beautiful, resilient, and connected gardens in the places they live.
Many gardeners want to do the right thing for the environment, but feel overwhelmed by technical advice or scientific language. Berry Creek Garden exists to bridge that gap. The nursery translates horticultural knowledge into practical guidance for everyday gardeners, making it easier to choose plants that thrive, conserve water, and support local wildlife. Whether someone is planting their first pollinator bed or redesigning an entire landscape, the focus is on clear information, thoughtful plant selection, and a garden that works with nature rather than against it.
The shop is also a gathering place for people who care about plants, creativity, and the natural world. Workshops, seasonal events, and collaborations with local growers and makers create opportunities to learn, experiment, and connect with others who share a love of gardening. Berry Creek Garden is not just about buying plants. It is about building a deeper relationship with the land, the seasons, and the community that grows alongside it.
Lee McCollins
Lee’s career began in food, hospitality, and event design before expanding into brand building and destination marketing, but it has always been grounded in a lifelong love of gardens, nature, and the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Early experience in the family catering business and later as a Marketing Team Leader at Whole Foods Market shaped Lee’s approach to storytelling, merchandising, and creating spaces where people gather.
At Durant at Red Ridge Farms, Lee led a major rebrand and grew the Olio Nuevo Festival into a nationally recognized month-long celebration of wine, olive oil, and regional food culture while working closely with vineyards, orchards, and nursery plants.
As Director of Marketing and Communications at Visit McMinnville, Lee helped position the town as a leading destination in Oregon wine country while championing community projects such as McMinnville Art Alley, Merry McMinnville, MacFresco, and the Solid Foundations Tour.
Through Berry Creek Garden, Lee brings that same energy to horticulture, focusing on native plants, climate-resilient gardening, and the creation of welcoming spaces where people can learn, connect, and grow alongside the natural environment.
