About Berry Creek Garden

We’ve been dreaming up Berry Creek Garden for years and now we’re making it real right here in McMinnville. Tucked between two industrial buildings, we’re creating a hidden courtyard that feels like stumbling into a secret garden. Greenery everywhere. Water and light. Rustic pottery. A greenhouse glowing red from salvaged windows we rescued and rebuilt by hand. It’s giving cozy, lush, β€œplants are thriving and so are we” energy.

Berry Creek Garden is more than a place to buy plants. It’s a home for sustainable gardening, learning new skills, and building community. We’re growing most of our plants locally at Tainable Labs. Native species. Climate resilient friends. The stuff that actually supports the planet instead of just looking cute.

This whole thing is insanely personal for us. It’s Lee’s creativity and love for community teaming up with Danny’s horticulture brain and green-thumb witchcraft. Together we’re building a space that feels beautiful and grounded and totally Mac.

Our goal is to open in March 2026 and keep evolving with the seasons. Workshops. Local makers. Places to gather. A spot to breathe. A place you want to bring your mom, your besties, and let’s be real yourself when you need a vibe shift.

At its core, Berry Creek Garden is about belonging, joy, and connecting with nature in everyday life. We’re so hyped to grow this with you.

Danny & Lee

Danny is a Master Gardener whose expertise is rooted in both formal training and hands-on practice. He works full-time as a gardener at the Allison Inn & Spa Culinary Garden, where he helps cultivate produce and plants that supply one of the region’s most celebrated hospitality destinations. He maintains a plot at the McMinnville Community Garden, where he also pitches in as a volunteer in various ways. His love for the natural world shines in his commitment to starting healthy plants from seed and cuttings and in his belief that gardening should be approachable for everyone.

Lee brings a career that began in food, hospitality, and event design before expanding into brand building and destination marketing. Early on, Lee worked in the family catering company, gaining experience in fine dining, large-scale event design and small business leadership. Later, as a Marketing Team Leader at Whole Foods Market, Lee honed skills in storytelling, merchandising, and customer engagement that continue to shape his work today.

At Durant at Red Ridge Farms, Lee led a comprehensive rebrand that united four distinct businesses into one nationally recognized destination for wine, olive oil, specialty nursery plants, and culinary tourism. Over eight years, he expanded a small two-day olive oil celebration into the Olio Nuevo Festival, a month-long annual event that draws visitors with its focus on local food, wine, and culture. Under his leadership, Durant became a β€œmust-stop” in Oregon wine country, recognized as an industry leader while achieving rapid growth in both visitation and sales.

As Director of Marketing and Communications at Visit McMinnville , Lee shapes how the town is seen and experienced by visitors from across the globe. From launching the β€œKick Back in Mac” campaign to building a new website, producing hundreds of social campaigns and videos, and leading national media tours, Lee’s work transforms stories into real visitation that drives the local economy. Beyond tourism, Lee has also championed community projects such as McMinnville Art Alley, the Edible Garden Festival, Merry McMinnville, MacFresco, and the Solid Foundations Tour - initiatives that turned overlooked ideas and spaces into thriving experiences for the community.

The Impact

At Berry Creek Garden, we’re reimagining what a nursery can be. Our focus is on Pacific Northwest native and climate-adapted plants that truly thrive hereβ€”alongside distinctive selections you won’t find at conventional retailers. By curating plants that are both resilient and inspiring, we’re giving gardeners new ways to elevate their landscapes while caring for the planet.

Berry Creek Garden will:

  • Provide locally grown plants that nurture healthier ecosystems

  • Host classes and workshops that make gardening accessible to everyone

  • Inspire sustainable choices that ripple throughout the community

  • Transform an overlooked alley into a destination alive with beauty and connection

This is about more than retail. It’s about growing resilience, beauty, and community from the ground up.

At Tainable Labs, we’ll cultivate an inventory of native and edible plantsβ€”propagating from seed and cuttingsβ€”to support both ecological restoration and local food systems. Our growing practices will emphasize regenerative methods, fostering biodiversity while producing food-bearing plants that thrive in our evolving climate.

Greenhouse Retrofit at Tainable Labs :

Retail Nursery

A raw courtyard at Mac Market will be reborn as an inspired garden space filled with lush plants, flowing water, salvaged-wood architecture, and a curated selection of tools, seeds, and gifts. Through thoughtful design and storytelling, every corner will invite visitors into an experience that is unexpected, unforgettable, and rooted in Oregon’s natural beauty.

Retail Space Upgrades at Mac Market :

  • Security Fencing and an egress gate for safety and accessibility

  • 20+ yards of Crushed Gravel to level the retail β€œfloor” for accessibility and proper drainage.

  • Site Renovation by removing old decking, astroturf, and pavers to create a clean foundation

  • Construction of a Retail House for point-of-sale, display, and back-of-house workspace

  • Signage and storytelling that share our mission and create a sense of place

  • Initial Inventory of pottery, tools, garden art, and a curated mix of native and ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs.
